Changing tables make changing diapers easier and more comfortable. The elevated table surface allows the diaper-er to stand with the diaper-ee at the right waist height, putting less strain on the back. For most people this is preferable to hunching over the baby on the floor or the couch. It's one of the many beneficial features changing tables offer in addition to ample storage, baby safety and comfort.

Safety First
- The changing table should be sturdy, have solid legs and shows no signs of wobbling.
- A baby safety strap is a must. Safety Note: Never leave a baby alone. Always strap the baby in and have one hand on him while changing.
- Look for guardrails. According to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) safety standards, changing tables with a flat surface must have a barrier on all sides.
- Tables with wheels should have brakes that lock when the table is parked.
